Religious Education Curriculum Intent

At Thorpe Primary School our vision for religious education is to develop children’s understanding of different religions, cultures and customs through: thinking, engagement, actions and motivation. RE at Thorpe provides opportunities for children to learn about a variety of religions, belief systems, festivals and rituals, encouraging children to celebrate diversity within our community and challenge prejudice.

  • To learn about the customs, rituals and festivals associated with different religions and why these are significant.
  • To understand different communities of people and why they engage in religious or cultural customs.
  • To visit places of worship and enjoy taking part in enrichment opportunities which incorporate religious customs and rituals.
  • To learn how to become tolerant and compassionate citizens who demonstrate mutual respect for people.
  • To develop empathy, generosity and a sense of identity and belonging to help them understand their place in society.
  • To recognise and challenge prejudice and intolerance.
